From an early time in her life, Sarah Stokes has loved the arts. Drawing for hours on end as a child, then exploring oils, acrylics, pastels, and various mixed media pieces as a teenage art student, Sarah’s passion lies in creating beauty for others to enjoy. Having studied art and painting techniques independently, with an influential mentor, and also at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Sarah has developed a distinct and passionate painting style, with the use of strong colors and a frequently implemented impasto technique. Her favorite tool to work with is the palette knife, for its unique and fluid effect on the canvas. Inspiration for the majority of Sarah's work comes from classic film, the environment, or simply the vibrant life around her. Although she enjoys creating abstract-expressionistic artwork more than anything, Sarah also finds time for pieces such as impressionistic landscapes or realistic portraits commissioned by family, friends and acquaintances.
Since 2000, Sarah's artwork has been displayed in homes, at professional sporting events, in offices, and in galleries across the US, and also in Europe. Publicly, her paintings have been seen at the International Tennis Championships in Delray Beach, Florida as a solo exhibit in both 2002 and 2003; on the West Palm Beach PBS television station, highlighted with the Chris Evert Charities events in 2002 and 2003; at the Evert Tennis Acadmy clubhouse in Boca Raton, Florida; and at Maddi's Gallery in Birkdale Village, Huntersville, North Carolina.
With a former moniker of "SAP" where her artwork is concerned, Sarah is now known as "SAS" as a result of her marriage in March, 2007. She is currently working on pieces for more galleries in the Charlotte area and beyond, as well as launching her new 'Mi gallery' which invites anyone and everyone to try their hand at the millenia-old art form of painting in Sarah's studio.
Sarah lives on Lake Norman outside of Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband Jeff and their dog Maya. In her free time she enjoys boating, classic film, her elliptical trainer, running, traveling, Christianity, and time spent with her close-knit group of family and friends.
